This job is based on a private stable yard at the customer’s home. We installed the original fencing at this yard, which comprises of multiple paddocks fenced with creosote post and rail. The customer recently asked us to return to this site to split one of the existing paddocks in half, he had a few other challenges for us too!
This job was not without its challenges; the fencing was the easiest part of the project. As well as the new fence, the customer also asked us to move the field shelter to the centre of the new fence line, so that horses in either paddock would have access to the shelter. We also installed a new water trough.
The existing fence consisted of pressure-treated creosote posts with 4 rails. We ordered the same materials from the same supplier to ensure that all the fencing matches. We use Fence and Forget for all of our creosote jobs. Fence and Forget are the longest-established timber preservation company in the world, we find their products and customer service to be second to none.
While one of our fencing teams got to work on installing the new fence, our Managing Director Tom, and Contracts Manager Phil accessed the field shelter and determined that it was sound enough to move.
We used 6×3 flat top, pressure-treated creosote posts with 4 rails for the fence. We also added a strand of Gallagher flex nylon along the top rail and connected this to the existing electric circuit. Adding a strand of electric like this is the best way to stop the horses rubbing on the fence, we also find that it makes the horses more aware of the fence, so they are less likely to run into it or attempt to lean over it.
Using our telehandler, heavy-duty lifting straps and D-Links, Tom and Phil were able to move the field shelter into its new position. Once in position. The fencing team then installed 4 rails on the inside of the shelter, effectively carrying on the fenceline into the interior of the shelter.
The customer now has a new paddock. The horses in these paddocks will now all have access to fresh water and the field shelter. The new fencing matches the existing fences.
If you would like any further information on creosote fencing, please give us a call and one of our experienced Contracts Managers will be happy to help.
