We recently completed this job at Tabley Park on behalf of the Crown Estate. The estate is set in 590 acres of prime grazing land which is home to both sheep and cattle. The Tabley Estate also includes a Grade 2 listed building, nursing home and tearoom. It is also used as a showground throughout the summer and is the home of Knutsford Races.
The land is farmed by a tenant cattle farmer. We were asked us to replace fencing fencing, gates and stiles around woodland and install a new fencing on the edge of a lake.
The main challenge on this job was the weather and wet ground, something that we’re well versed in these days! The ground was saturated after weeks of persistent rain and the rain kept falling wile the job was in progress.
The area that we were fencing in was roughly 800 meters from the road, with the only access to the area being across a wet field.
We are well equipped for fencing in wet conditions. Our fencing teams are kitted out with tracked post knockers, tracked tractors, 4X4 pickup trucks and heavy duty waterproof clothing.
Tracked machinery means that we can get to areas where non-tracked machinery may struggle. The tracks give the machines a wide footprint, which lowers the pressure we are puting on the ground. In short, tracked machines make less mess than those with tyres and are less likely to get stuck.
While we do stand our fencing teams down if conditions become unsafe, we are usually able to keep working in the wettest of conditions.
This job took a team of 2, 5 days to compete. The lads started by installing the stock fencing which started along the edge of a lake, where the access was quite difficult, and went on to a long, straight stretch towards the woodland.
Once the stock netting was installed the lads got to work on installing the new gates. The job included 1 set of double gates and a single field gate. The stile was installed next to the the filed gate and will be used for the estate managers to gain quick and easy access into the lake area to check water levels.
This area is now safely fenced with new stock fencing, gates and access stiles. We will be back at Tabley Park in the coming months to undertake more fencing work in other areas of the park.
